There are a few significant storylines shaping up for this weekend's NPC USA Championships in Las Vegas, but none more compelling than the highly anticipated showdown between last year's third and fourth place heavyweight finalists, Lee Banks and Mark Alvisi.
WHAT: 2009 NPC USA Bodybuilding, Figure & Bikini Championships
WHEN: July 24-25
WHERE: Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall at UNLV, Las Vegas, Nevada

Although Banks edged Alvisi at last year's USA's, Alvisi went on to an impressive showing at the Nationals, where he barely lost the heavyweight class, and a pro card to Michael Liberatore. Similarly, Banks found himself in the runner-up spot at last year's North American Championships, to Marc Lavoie who also has graduated to the IFBB.
If Vegas laid odds on such things, it would have a tough time picking a favorite in the dog fight to come. No doubt in the end it will come down to a matter of conditioning and presentation. Whatever the outcome though, the heavyweight class alone is sure to provide ample intrigue at the 2009 NPC USA Championships.
