Organic Food vs. Conventional Food - Why do consumers buy organic foods? For years all we've heard are the virtues of Organic Food, but I've always refrained from buying it for the cost. In my opinion the benefits did not match the price for eggs or fruits and vegetables. In the New York Times paper the other day, Kenneth Chang reported on a recent Stanford study that found "…organic produce, meats and dairy foods, concluded that organic foods are no more nutritious than their conventional counterparts."
A new study by Stanford researchers has added fuel to a debate about the differences between organic and conventionally grown foods. The Stanford report, an analysis of 237 studies of organic produce, meats and dairy foods, concluded that organic foods are no more nutritious than their conventional counterparts. Advocates of organic foods, meanwhile, say that the study takes a narrow view of organic food choices, and that most people choose organic because they want to avoid pesticides, hormones and other chemicals used in conventional farming.
Advocates claim the study was too narrow. I on the other hand feel vindicated on my frugalness! However, I've noticed a huge disparity in taste between real organic meats and regular meet. Steak and Chicken taste much better if raised organic meaning free range and or hormone free.
