India to host world’s third largest & Asia’s only Professional Bodybuilding event, Sheru Classic Professional Championship on 6th October
New Delhi, September 13, 2012: Basking in the glory of its spectacular success last year in Mumbai, Sheru Classic Professional Championship, which is Asia’s first IFBB Professional League Event, is back with a bang. Positioned as the world’s 3rd largest in the Professional Bodybuilding category after Mr. Olympia and Arnold Classic, Sheru Classic Professional Championship 2012 will be held in Delhi on 6th October offering a cash prize worth $210,000. The grand event will be a part of the two-day health & fitness extravaganza, Sheru Classic Delhi 2012.
Sheru Classic Professional Championship 2012 will witness fierce competition between some of the world’s best Professional Bodybuilders, including Phil Heath, Kai Green, Ben White and Toney Freeman, as well as world renowned Professional Women’s Figure Athletes like Nicole Wilkins, Erin Stern, Heather Dees and Felicia Romero. Participants will compete against each other in 4 main categories – Men’s Professional Bodybuilding, Women’s Professional Figure, Men’s Professional 212 and Women’s Professional Bikini.
Presented under the banner of Sheru Classic Production Pvt. Ltd., Sheru Classic is the brainchild of India’s second Professional Bodybuilder Mr. Sheru Aangrish, who, along with his elder brother Hemant Aangrish, conceptualized and introduced the first chapter of Sheru Classic last year in Mumbai. Commenting on the event, Mr. Sheru Aangrish said, “Sheru Classic is going to be the next big thing in Asia with over 30-40 major sports competitions being held under its banner by 2022. I have initiated the process with Bodybuilding because I have closely seen the hardships that fitness and Bodybuilding enthusiasts have to face in our country in order to compete at the international platform. My aim is to create awareness about Professional Bodybuilding in India so that it gets recognized as a major competitive sport. The success of last year’s show has already pushed me a step ahead towards my goal”.
The process of inducting sports other than Bodybuilding in the event has already started as Sheru Classic Delhi 2012 will also witness a Powerlifting Competition which is being organized in association with the Indian Powerlifting Federation. In the Powerlifting Competition, men and women champions from 33 states across the country will compete against each other in four categories – Lightweight Men, Lightweight Women, Open Men and Open Women.
The success of Sheru Classic 2011 has been the evidence of an awakening Bodybuilding industry in the sub-continent. The Championship, which was well received by the athletes, fans and celebrities last year, has received Tier 2 status for Olympia qualifier points; the points earned by the winners of Sheru Classic 2012 will help them qualify for the Olympia Championship 2013. Within a short span of one year, Sheru Classic is on its way to become one of the prominent sports events of Asia. It has stirred the Bodybuilding industry by its sheer magnitude of opportunities not just for the athletes but also for the growth of the industry.
