The first night of official competition for Joe Weider's 2011 Olympia Weekend is over and the big winners are: Iris Kyle, Ms. Olympia; Adela Garcia, Fitness Olympia; Nicole Nagrani, Bikini Olympia.
For Kyle, it's her seventh overall Ms. O to put her one shy of Lenda Murray's record of eight (Kyle won the heavyweight division in 2001 but lost the overall to lightweight winner Juliette Bergmann). Though not at her all time best in terms of crisp detail and bone-dry condition earlier today at prejudging, she improved for the finals and that, combined with her superior shape and structure, proportions and flowing lines, made it lights out for the competition. Yaxeni Oriquen-Garcia placed second, with Brigita Brezovac in third, Debi Laszewski in fourth, Alina Popa in fifth and Sheila Bleck in sixth.
Adela Garcia's sixth Fitness Olympia victory stretches her win streak to six contests, dating back to the 2009 Europa Show of Champions. Garcia tightened her condition from this afternoon's prejudging and her high-energy routine, punctuated by impressive strength moves, kept her ahead of the pack. Tanji Johnson took the runner-up spot, with Myriam Capes in third, Tina Durkin in fourth, Oksana Grishina in fifth (on the strength of her fabulous routine) and Michelle Blank in sixth.
Nineteen-year old Nicole Nagrani proved that it's good to be young as she moved up two spots from her third place finish here last year. Only in her second season, the teen sensation already has two of the sport's biggest titles to her name (Nagrani won the Bikini International in March) and there's no telling how many more championships she'll add to her resume in the coming years. Nathalia Melo took second, with a much-improved Dianna Dahlgren in third, Jamie Baird in fourth, Sonia Gonzales in fifth and newcomer India Paulino in sixth.
