About Toney Freeman
Place of Birth: Sound Bend, IN
Competition Weight: 285 lbs
Off-Season: 300 lbs
Toney Freeman's nickname is the X Man because his body characterises the X-frame of classical bodybuilding: broad shoulders, narrow waist and flaring thighs.
But that frame had been hidden to Freeman for years. It wasn’t until his late 30s that he began competing, instead he simply pursued bodybuilding as a hobby leaving the competing up to his idols Lee Haney and Dorian Yates.
Once Freeman had filled out that frame, under the mentorship of Dave Palumbo, he entered his first contest in 1993 and won the heavyweight class of the NPC Junior Nationals. His first IFBB event was the Night of Champions a decade later, where he placed 11th. His first Arnold Classic was in 2005, where he placed 10th. A year later Freeman competed in the Ironman Pro Invitational, placing seventh. He was unstoppable and continued to be placing in Mr. Olympia competitions and dozens of others worldwide.
