Fouad's In the Groove

Fouad Abiad's off-season meal plan & training split

I’ve heard it said that bodybuilding is a marathon not a sprint…Man, ain’t that the truth.  I’ve been killin this shit for 15 years and still feel like I have so far to go.  I’m slowly putting all the pieces together and I feel like I’m finally on the right track.

When I look back at the last few years, I feel like I stalled somewhere a couple years ago.  Not really getting any bigger or better and I believe it was trying to change something that’s working.  When I was young I used to eat like a beast (ya I would get fat) that’s how I got the name Hoss.  I would eat and eat and get really heavy in the offseason but when it came to contest time it always meant that I was at least 5lbs off of my contest weight.

For the last three years I’ve been going onstage around 250-255lbs and I believe its partially from keeping it too clean in the offseason.  Now I don’t mean I want to eat a whole shit load of garbage.  What I mean is I want to eat more than I should be even if its all clean.  That will still mean I’m going to see fat gain, but it will also mean that I’m going to gain muscle because I’m never going to be catabolic.

Here is a sample of what my diet looks like right now:

Meal 1
80g Scitec 100% Whey Isolate
1.5 Cups Oatmeal (dry measure)
1tbsp Raw Honey

Meal 2
12oz Chicken Breast
2 Cups Sushi Rice
1tbsp Coconut Oil

Meal 3
12oz Chicken Breast
2 Cups Sushi Rice
1 Green Apple

Meal 4
80g Scitec 100% Whey Isolate
1.5 Cups Oatmeal

Meal 5
12oz Ground Beef
2.5 Cups Rice Pasta
2tbsp Olive Oil

Meal 6
6 Whole Eggs
8 Egg Whites
Optional Vegetable Side

Its not the most intricate diet but it works.  I don’t need to do “carb back loading” or “IIFYM” or any new fad diet.  What has always worked for me and works for most bodybuilders I know is just straight eating.  Not over thinking - it just slammin cals!

TRAINING

Training has been good as well lately.  Since getting on board with Dennis James and really pounding the calories, my body is responding nicely to training. I’ve also been doing a four-day split which is giving my body plenty of recovery time.  Here is the split if you’re wondering how its set up:

Sunday – OFF

Monday – Back / Biceps

Tuesday – Chest / Calves

Wednesday – OFF

Thursday – Quads / Hams

Friday – OFF

Saturday – Shoulders / Hams

In an age where everyone seems to be training more instead of less I still feel like my body needs the time to recover.  Some people training everyday, some people training twice a day, others three times, if it works for them that’s awesome.  In my time in this game I’ve realized you have to find what works best for you and then pound that shit until you reach your ultimate goal and fulfill your potential.  Something I haven’t done yet but am working hard to make it happen in 2014.

Ok so on a non-bodybuilding front I wanted to share with you guys my new truck purchase.  I needed something big and tough for the winter, I also needed something that was going to fit my fat ass.  This is the before pic and if you check out the next blog you guys will see what I have done to this plain ass truck!

Sacrifice Without Regret,

Fouad ‘Hoss’ Abiad
