Think of it as an awards show without all the lame song-and-dance numbers. ItÂs the annual Flexy Awards, honoring the best bodybuilders in the world for their efforts inside and outside the gym.
This yearÂs ceremony will be held on Friday, October 14, at 1:30 p.m. in the Las Vegas Convention Center on the Olympia ExpoÂs main stage. Pro bodybuilder and host extraordinaire Bob Cicherillo will be cracking jokes and handing out checks to the tune of $5,000 total to this yearÂs winners. Each award recipient will also get a Niels Andersen ÂAtlas sculpture, a beautiful addition to any trophy case.
Flexys will be presented in four areas: IFBB Athlete of the Year, (male and female), IFBB Male Bodybuilder Rookie of the Year, Most Improved IFBB Male Bodybuilder, and Outstanding Achievement, which is to be awarded to the individual whose leadership and actions best represent the spirit of bodybuilding and fitness.
The nominees for each of the awards are as follows:
Athlete of the Year: To be awarded to the competitor who has shown a strong combination of excellence, consistency and performance throughout the 2005 competitive year.
Mary Elizabeth Lado
Rookie of the Year: To be awarded to the rookie bodybuilder who has shown the highest level of achievement in 2005.
Most Improved: To be awarded to the bodybuilder who has shown the greatest improvement to his physique in 2005.
Vanguard Award: This yearÂs recipient is Shawn Ray, who has worked tirelessly to further bodybuilding both within the sport and in the public eye.
If youÂre at the O, be at the Expo on Friday, Octobere 14 at 1.30pm to witness the presentation of the awards.
