On July 30, when Steve Kuclo won the super-heavyweight and overall titles at the NPC USA Championships he was only 25. It was a blow-out victory for Kuclo because he brought parts to the stage that others lacked. For example, look down to his cow-like calves, which gave him a distinct advantage in every comparison from every angle. Kuclo shared a typical calf routine with FLEX and offered a few pointers on how to muscle up your lower legs.
KUCLO ON CALF WRANGING
- “I’m really strong on calves. I’ll pile a lot of extra plates on the machine for donkey calf raises and go up to over 1000 pounds. The important thing, though, is to pick a weight that you can use for about 10 to 15 good reps.”
- “I do a lot of drop sets for calves. I may start with 1000 on donkey calf raises and after four drops I’ll be down to 500.”
- “It’s important that you get a good stretch and a good contraction on every rep.”
